“U-WAVE fit Measurement Data Wireless Communication System”

Starting September 1st this year, Mitutoyo Corporation (Head office: Takatsu Ward, Kawasaki City; President: Yoshiaki Numata) came to market with the “U-WAVE-TM/TC (nicknamed U-WAVE fit),” developed and merchandised as a miniaturized version of its “U-WAVE” measurement data wireless communication system. The device allows for simple operations to feed output data from measuring instruments equipped with Mitutoyo's digimatic output by wireless communication to Windows PC applications such as Excel*1 and Notepad, etc., and through its cordless operation achieves a dramatic improvement in measuring workability at a low price point. Expectations are for demand to further expand given the need to convert inspection result records into electronic data as seen in recent years.

By using U-WAVE, measurement data can be wirelessly transmitted and fed in to a PC immediately, eliminating handwriting errors and resulting in enhanced work efficiency and data reliability. Since the device is easy to install on pre-existing measuring instruments and requires no equipment repurchasing, users can avoid major outlays. A maximum of 100 measuring instruments can be accommodated by a single receiver unit installed on the PC. Each data set can be fed separately into Excel*1, allowing for a smooth transition to data aggregation and assessment operations.

The device retains the functions and performance features of the current U-WAVE-T model while its miniaturized and slimmed-down format achieves an integrated haptic with the measuring instrument and enhances operability. To avoid interference during measuring, the transmission unit is cable-free and positioned in the back, with apparent dimensions smaller than the display modules of both the micrometer and the caliper.

For micrometers and calipers, models currently on sale as well as discontinued models (with some exceptions) are compatible and the transmission unit can be detached and re-used when measuring instruments are decommissioned.

The U-WAVE fit transmission unit is available in two models comprised of the U-WAVE-TM for micrometers and the U-WAVE-TC for calipers. Additionally available are the buzzer type and water and dustproof IP67 type for each respective model. The buzzer type equipped with a buzzer and LED to signal correct data reception, and the water and dustproof IP67 type (with LED only) is designed for environments with high dust incidence, allowing the devices to be used in accordance with specific applications.

In appreciation of the features described above, the U-WAVE fit received the Fiscal Year 2018 Good Design Award of the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.

Mitutoyo contributes to society by providing precision measuring for the continuously evolving future of manufacturing.
