Guidance for Mitutoyo Product Users in Thailand regarding Flood Damage
Mitutoyo expresses our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the recent severe flooding in the Kingdom of Thailand.
This notice regarding water damage to Mitutoyo products as a result of the recent flooding contains advice and information regarding the proper actions to be taken for the repair and restoration of such equipment.
For more than 20 years, Mitutoyo has been active in the measuring equipment business in the Kingdom of Thailand and has received patronage and support from customers in Thailand for much of that time.
We are working hard to provide support in response to the recent events, and are praying for the rapid recovery of all our customers affected by these floods.
Remedial action when Mitutoyo products have been damaged by submersion in floodwater
Please wait for a Mitutoyo service engineer to attend your company before attempting to use such products. Moreover, please appreciate that the Mitutoyo service engineer may not be able to guarantee to restore the function, accuracy, etc. of affected products if the floodwater damage is severe.
1)
Please do not apply power to any affected products before the service engineer arrives
This is to prevent short-circuits tripping circuit breakers and to avoid any risk of fire. Also, please remove any electric cells/batteries to avoid further damage from leakage of corrosive liquid. For measuring instruments, please remove all power cables and AC adapters from electric sockets, while taking extreme care to avoid electric shock.
2)
Please inform Mitutoyo (Thailand) or Mitutoyo Corporation that you suspect floodwater damage to Mitutoyo products on your site.
Please give your company name, address, contact division and person, type of affected products, code No., serial No., and provide a brief report of the damage situation as you see it (including photographs).

Mitutoyo group will send the service engineer to your site as soon as possible, who will assess damage to Mitutoyo products affected and judge whether or not repair is economically feasible, but will in any case strive for maximum restoration of your company’s measuring capability.
However, we are anxious about the lapse of time before we can attend your site because of disruption to road and rail communications, and the large number of calls for assistance expected. Therefore, if you wish to attempt restoration of any affected product yourself, please refer to the table below for guidance.
It is important to appreciate that the criteria for judging if repair is economically feasible is not the same for each product but is, in general, as outlined below. Moreover, repair judgment is dependent on the particular situation and degree of damage.

A. When a product has been COMPLETELY submerged in floodwater
A-1.
From past experience, if the main unit has been submerged in muddy water then sensitive parts will be contaminated and repair and restoration is impossible.
A-2.
Repair and restoration of control units (electrical parts, control devices, computers, etc.) is very difficult.

B. When a product has been PARTIALLY submerged in floodwater
B-1.
The main unit can be repaired and restored by cleaning/drying and replacing mechanical/electrical parts as necessary.
B-2.
The control unit (electrical parts, control devices, computers, etc.) can be repaired and restored by cleaning/drying.
Emergency Measures to be taken by Customers concerning flood-damaged Measuring Tools
If you wish to attempt restoration (e.g. cleaning) of measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers yourself, please refer to the table below for guidance beforehand.

< Caution! >
Please note and appreciate that Mitutoyo Corporation cannot accept any responsibility for damage to equipment or safety of personnel relating to user's restoration judgment and attempted remedial actions. Such actions are entirely the user's responsibility.
Also, the following procedures are only to be regarded as emergency measures. Even after cleaning/drying equipment do not replace any electric cells/batteries, or reconnect power cables or AC adapters, or turn on the power supply to affected equipment without a Mitutoyo service engineer's instruction.

Check that the electric cell is removed.

Remove the electric cell.

Wash off mud and contamination using clean water.
Wipe off moisture by toweling, and dry thoroughly. If using an electric dryer, avoid high temperature and be careful to avoid damage to heat-sensitive components (recommend cold mode).

Anti-corrosion treatment: when using anti-corrosion spray, please be careful not to apply to parts that do not need this type of protection.
Wipe off excess anti-corrosion oil. (If possible, use oil that is dedicated to anticorrosion.)

After applying the above treatment, please wait for a Mitutoyo service engineer to complete restoration operations or consult our distributors or service division of a Mitutoyo subsidiary. Please appreciate that even if you performed the above-mentioned washing and drying procedure, parts replacement may still be required and premature operation of the equipment may render it unrepairable.
Emergency Measures to be taken by Customers concerning flood-damaged Measuring Instruments
Please contact Mitutoyo (Thailand) or Mitutoyo Corporation concerning emergency restoration procedures that may be applied to measuring instruments: - Coordinate Measuring Machines, Vision Measuring Systems, Form Measuring Instruments, Microscopes, Projectors, Hardness Testing Machines and similar equipment). Your measuring instruments are heavy items that use high voltage power supplies, and performing the required work without the support of a Mitutoyo service engineer is extremely dangerous. Please note that Mitutoyo cannot bear any responsibility for safety when customers perform this work themselves.
