Mitutoyo Corporation has changed the names of its domestic and overseas showrooms to a globally unified name, the "M3 Solution Centers (M-cube Solution Centers), which is based on the concept that these rooms would provide solutions to customer needs and propose the latest measuring technologies. The names of the current domestic showrooms at seven different locations have been changed to "M3 Solution Center TOKYO", etc. written in English. At the same time, the new "M3 Solution Center CMM*" has been established inside the Microcord Plant of the Utsunomiya Operations (Utsunomiya city, Tochigi prefecture), where demonstrations of Mitutoyo's CMM products, as well as the propositions of the latest measuring technologies can be given. The new "M3 Solution Center CMM " opens publicly in May.
Conventionally, showrooms have given the rather passive impression that their main role was to show customers a display of products, according to their requests. However, the truth is that a wide range of products from measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers, to various system equipments, such as vision measuring systems and coordinate measuring machines, have been displayed in the showrooms. Also, demonstrations have been given there to prospective users who were considering purchases, or to distributors who wanted to advertise or do promotions of certain products. In order to overcome this passive image that the "showroom" is nothing more than a place where products are displayed and explanations on the products are given, Mitutoyo has renamed these showrooms the "M3 Solution Center". This is a globally unified name, which signifies the further advanced role of these places - that these are places where solutions to customer's needs are provided through the demonstrations of products and where customers can encounter the latest measuring technologies. The "M3 (M-cube)" stands for three M's, namely, "Mitutoyo", "Measurement", and "Metrology". The dynamic spiral used in its newly designed logo symbolizes a partnership and prosperity between customers and Mitutoyo, while the globe symbolizes a goal that customers and Mitutoyo share.
The newly established "M3 Solution Center CMM", which is located inside the Microcord Plant of the Utsunomiya Operations, boasts a large space of 320m2. Here ten different types of coordinate measuring machines according to measuring range and accuracy are displayed in a controlled ambient temperature of 20oC±2oC, thus offering solutions to various needs in three-dimensional coordinate measurement in just one visit. This center is also equipped with a special room where the ambient temperature is more strictly controlled to be 20oC±0.5oC. Here in this special room, Mitutoyo's ultra high-accuracy CNC CMM LEGEX, which boasts the highest accuracy in the world, is ready to answer customer's needs in measurements in sub-microns.
The specialists with the extensive knowledge of operations and know-how in metrology who have attended the showrooms, will continue their services. These include giving advice in technical matters, giving demonstrations, and responding to requests for measurements. It will also mean actively pursuing their new roles as contact points for customers, satisfying customer's needs through providing the latest metrological solutions.
